Mental illnesses refer to a wide range of mental disorders involving changes in emotion, thinking, or behavior (or a combination of these). Mental illnesses are associated with distress and/or problems functioning in social, work or family activities (APA, 2018). Many people may struggle with their mental health from time to time, but a mental health concern becomes a mental illness when ongoing signs and symptoms cause frequent stress and affect your ability to function. In most cases, symptoms can be managed with a combination of medications and psychotherapy (ABA, 2018).
A few Types of Mental Disorders include:
• Clinical Depression
• Anxiety Disorder
• Bipolar Disorder
• Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD)
• Dementia
• Attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD)
• Autism
